Regarding the Great Copenhagen Summit of Fail:

World leaders have decreed that they will limit the rise in temperature of the earth to no more than +2oC.

Could they please explain to me (with my degree in physics) how they will persuade the Supreme Being(s) who regulates the temperature of the sun to play along with this? Or are we in the territory of HUGE UNOBTAINIUM SUNBLOCK SHIELDS and other such fantasy implements?

Happy Christmas, everyone.

I'm off to get paralytically drunk pleasantly merry in memory of the season.

Best wishes to all, and see some of you on the 29th.

The 1995 Margaux Grand Cru beckons - see you later...

Some good news.

Mum's here - she got a first class ticket which meant Eurostar could get her on the train. She arrived home about 15 minutes ago to a house full of food. We'll do a bit of putting decorations up tomorrow morning. I still have to wrap the presents, and we have to await Dad's arrival sometime tomorrow.

Operation was a lot simpler than I'd feared. After a tricky drive down little roads - damn you, Galadriel1, your foresight doesn't cater for ice, came to a lovely converted old house with relaxing music playing, New Scientist articles about same-sex couples in nature and how to get oil out of strange places, and pictures of Angkor Wat with explanations. And Dr. Chauhan knew his stuff. Anaesthetic, large metal thing into tooth, waggle around, *pop* - out it came. I've just looked at it and it really is a nasty thing I'm relieved is out of my mouth. I can show it to particularly ghoulish party guests on the 29th if they're interested :).

I won't be singing at the Nine Lessons but I think I can manage Christmas Day Matins.

I now know where C will be when.

Sarah's present has arrived at work; they're forwarding it to me. I am stupid - I should have sent it to Sarah's parents' address.

I am Nerd, hear me narg.

Your result for The Nerd? Geek? or Dork? Test...

Pure Nerd

83 % Nerd, 48% Geek, 35% Dork

For The Record:

A Nerd is someone who is passionate about learning/being smart/academia.

A Geek is someone who is passionate about some particular area or subject, often an obscure or difficult one.

A Dork is someone who has difficulty with common social expectations/interactions.

You scored better than half in Nerd, earning you the title of: Pure Nerd.

The times, they are a-changing. It used to be that being exceptionally smart led to being unpopular, which would ultimately lead to picking up all of the traits and tendences associated with the "dork." No-longer. Being smart isn't as socially crippling as it once was, and even more so as you get older: eventually being a Pure Nerd will likely be replaced with the following label: Purely Successful.

Congratulations!

Snyeg. Smeg.

Snyeg (снег) is the Russian for snow. I am snowed in. I do not want what happened in February (nearly dying, etc.) to happen again and therefore have not taken the decision to drive. It does mean that I will miss the company Christmas lunch. I have a choir rehearsal at 7, but this is in St. Albans and I'll have a crack at getting there - only a 5 mile drive rather than the 24 mile country drive to work.

I also have a man coming to see me about my floor later today. He is coming from somewhere in Bedfordshire... best of luck!

At least the cricket is on (Aus v WI particularly interesting).

I WIN THE INTERNET. And have a new towel.
